Johnny Cash - At San Quentin / At Folsom Prison
Johnny Cash war bereits zehn Jahre lang dabei, neue Gebiete zu erschließen, als er mit At Folsom Prison die Aufmerksamkeit einer breiteren Allgemeinheit auf sich zog. Die Wechselwirkung zwischen einer Gefängnisbelegschaft, die sich nach Unterhaltung verzehrte und Johnny Cash in absoluter Topform war elektrisierend. Sein düsterer Machismo hatte endlich ein Zuhause gefunden. Die Songs — darunter sämtliche Gefängnislieder, die er kannte (”I Got Stripes”, “The Wall”, “25 Minutes To Go”, “Cocaine Blues” sowie sein eigenes “Folsom Prison Blues”) — waren darauf abgestimmt, die Menge in spontane Begeisterung zu versetzen. Hier geht es allein um Atmosphäre. Ein “Live At The Grand Ole Opry” ist diese Platte gewiss nicht. In der 1999er Ausgabe dieses Albums wurden die San-Quentin-Aufnahmen der ursprünglichen CD-Neuauflage gegen drei weitere Folsom-Tracks ausgetauscht, um Ihnen die vollständige und unzensierte Folsom-Show bieten zu können. –Colin Escott
